THE KILLING OF SCOBIE THE MONKEY (IN PRE-PRODUCTION) | SCREENPLAY: Marc Hardman
Luckycoin Films are now in pre-production on their second feature film. This one is a far darker and murkier offering than 'The Old Man'. We will be leaning into our DIY filmmaking techniques in an attempt to pull off a no/micro budget production that looks and sounds of a premium production value. We are again following our character-led approach to story structure.. but this time pushing the visual expression as far as we can.
Paul Scobie's family thought he was dead. So when he reappears, in a shabby sea side town, to visit his daughter for her eigthteenth birthday, his presence opens up old wounds. His Daughter and ex-wife question where he has been for the past six years but Scobie is reluctant to give truthful answers.
Coming out of hiding also draws the attention of some old, and very dangerous, business associates. Events are set into motion that ensure the next three days will be the last of Scobie's life.
The clock is ticking for Scobie to set records straight, redeem himself as a father and reconnect with his teenage daughter...
'The Killing of Scobie The Monkey' is a shady, emotional drama that blends genres and inspirations such as 'Paris Texas', 'Five Easy Pieces' and 'The Wicker Man'. It's a story that combines elements of drama and folk horror to weave a story of hope in dark times, redemption against the odds and troubled love between a father and child.
